A Necessary Clarification
This study is not an exhaustive comparison of world religions. Its purpose is to help newcomers understand, from a biblical perspective, how Christianity relates to other major belief systems-especially those most commonly compared with it. The goal is clarity, not caricature, and truth spoken with humility.
Judaism
Shared Foundations
Christianity and Judaism share significant common ground:
- The Hebrew Scriptures (Old Testament)
- Belief in one God
- The concepts of creation, sin, covenant, and moral law
- The promises given to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob

Judaism is unique among world religions because it is rooted in God's direct revelation and covenantal dealings.
The Point of Separation: Jesus the Messiah
The fundamental divide is not ethics or monotheism, but Jesus Christ.

Islam
Surface Similarities
Islam shares some external similarities with Christianity:
- Belief in one God
- Respect for biblical figures such as Abraham, Moses, and Jesus
- Emphasis on moral conduct and obedience
However, these similarities are largely linguistic and historical, not theological.
Who Is Jesus?
Islam honors Jesus as a prophet but denies:
- His deity
- His crucifixion
- His resurrection
- His role as Savior
The Bible teaches the opposite at every point.

Islam teaches salvation through submission and works.

Eastern religions differ from Christianity at the most basic level:
- God is often impersonal or undefined
- Reality may be cyclical, not linear
- The self may be an illusion
- Salvation is often escape from existence, not redemption of it

Eastern systems typically diagnose the human problem as ignorance or attachment.
Scripture diagnoses it as sin.

Christianity does not merely offer teachings about God.
It proclaims God entering history, bearing sin, and defeating death.
