What About Judaism, Islam, and Eastern Religions?
What About Judaism? Islam? Eastern Religions?

A Necessary Clarification
This study is not an exhaustive comparison of world religions. Its purpose is to help newcomers understand, from a biblical perspective, how Christianity relates to other major belief systems-especially those most commonly compared with it. The goal is clarity, not caricature, and truth spoken with humility.

Judaism
Shared Foundations
Christianity and Judaism share significant common ground:
What advantage then hath the Jew? or what profit is there of circumcision?
Much every way: chiefly, because that unto them were committed the oracles of God
Romans 3:1-2
Judaism is unique among world religions because it is rooted in God's direct revelation and covenantal dealings.
The Point of Separation: Jesus the Messiah
The fundamental divide is not ethics or monotheism, but Jesus Christ.
Judaism awaits a Messiah.
Christianity proclaims that the Messiah has come.
He came unto his own, and his own received him not
John 1:11
Scripture teaches that the Law and the Prophets pointed forward to Christ.
For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to every one that believeth
Romans 10:4
The Biblical Diagnosis
Judaism without Christ retains the promises but misses their fulfillment.
For they being ignorant of God's righteousness, and going about to establish their own righteousness, have not submitted themselves unto the righteousness of God
Romans 10:3
Christianity affirms Israel's role in God's plan while insisting that salvation comes only through faith in Jesus.

Islam
Surface Similarities
Islam shares some external similarities with Christianity:
However, these similarities are largely linguistic and historical, not theological.
Who Is Jesus?
Islam honors Jesus as a prophet but denies:
The Bible teaches the opposite at every point.
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God
John 1:1
But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us
Romans 5:8
A Different Gospel
Islam teaches salvation through submission and works.
Christianity teaches salvation through grace.
Knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law, but by the faith of Jesus Christ
Galatians 2:16
The biblical verdict is clear:
Whosoever denieth the Son, the same hath not the Father
1 John 2:23

Eastern Religions (Hinduism, Buddhism, Related Systems)
A Completely Different Worldview
Eastern religions differ from Christianity at the most basic level:
The Bible teaches something radically different.
So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him
Genesis 1:27
The Problem Is Not Ignorance, But Sin
Eastern systems typically diagnose the human problem as ignorance or attachment.
Scripture diagnoses it as sin.
For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord
Romans 6:23
No Resurrection, No Restoration
Christianity teaches a bodily resurrection and renewed creation.
Eastern religions often seek dissolution of the self.
For the earnest expectation of the creature waiteth for the manifestation of the sons of God
Romans 8:19

What Christianity Affirms-and Rejects
Christianity acknowledges that other religions may:
But it rejects the idea that these systems reconcile people to God.
Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me
John 14:6

Why Christianity Cannot Be Placed Alongside Others
Christianity does not merely offer teachings about God.
It proclaims God entering history, bearing sin, and defeating death.
God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself
2 Corinthians 5:19
No other religion makes this claim.
No other religion offers this solution.

A Final Summary for Newcomers
Judaism points forward.
Islam denies the cross.
Eastern religions redefine the problem.
Christianity proclaims the answer.
Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved
Acts 4:12
This is not a statement of cultural superiority, but of divine revelation.
